Choosing a Tape Gun
Choosing a Tape Gun
There are many types of tape guns on the market - here is what to look for -
Core Brake vs. Mousetrap Style
I like the Mousetrap Style for applying Acrylic BOPP -
- Lightweight, easy to use
- Quieter unwind
- Inexpensive
If you are applying Hot Melt BOPP, you should probably use a Core Brake style -
- The core brake can be adjusted to control "Easy Unwind" of Hot Melt BOPP
- This can be an easier dispenser to load because you don't have to deal with the spring loaded mousetrap
Soft Rubber Roller
Which ever dispenser you choose, make sure it has a soft rubber toller that wipes down the tape on the box. The soft rubber roller will build up electricity and keep tape from falling over so your other hand is free to control the box.
Don't Stretch The Tape
The #1 reason tape fails on a box is because the person applying itstretched the tape during application. The BOPP has memory, and if stretched, will snap back to its original length within about 12 hours. The memory of the BOPP is stronger than the adhesive, so it will beging peeling off the box from each end of the tape
